Comparing Education Systems

Hong Kong has 6 years of high school and 4 years of university. A qualifying exam for university called The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) will be taken at the final year of high school.  A total of 10 years of education allows Hong Kong students to fit into North American and UK education systems in different ways:

Notes:1) F stands for Form, UG for Undergraduate, AD for Associate Degree, Y for Year, IY 1 for Internatioal Year 1, G for Grade

              2) In US and Canada grading system, Foundation program is only for Canada 

Grading System

The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) is the public exam that the Hong Kong high school graduates will take to make them qualify for university.  Every year about 25% of students will qualify for local university by achieving level 3-4 at the HKDSE and at least a level 3 in both English and Chinese and the grading system is as follows:
